In reply to <a href="https://mindbodydisc.com/9-disc-golf-driving-tips/#comment-1495">Steve</a>.

I totally see both sides of this. I see your friend's point of view. Bombing drives is fun. But so is winning! I guess you have to try to decide what your goal for that round is. Make sure to check out the post we put up tomorrow (9/28/15). It's all about this very subject!

Thanks for the comment and thank you for checking out the blog, I really appreciate it!

Great post! I play with casually with a friend 2 or 3 times a week after work casually. He has much more raw power than I do and consistly out-drives me. The thing is, though, that I normally shoot lower scores than him. That reason being because he throws his drives so far he loses some of his control and is often left with more difficult approach shots. I've tried explaining to him some of the things you wrote in this post but being just a casual player, he just really enjoys bombing his drives (and it's also very fun to watch so I don't force the issue too much). On a side note, this post reminds me of Happy Gilmore, haha. Thanks for the read!

In reply to <a href="https://mindbodydisc.com/9-disc-golf-driving-tips/#comment-1487">dale</a>.

Thanks for that Dale. I agree with you 100%.

I play a lot of ball golf too and I'm always amazed at the guys who just hit it 200 yds. straight, 200 yds. straight, chip, putt, par. They ALWAYS beat me badly even though I out drive them on every hole. Golf is such an incredibly complex simple sport!

I play in masters, not grandmasters, but I love that you are giving the kids a run for their money! We who don't have the full strength of our youth anymore have to show them that experience and intentional thought beat raw power most days! At least that's what I keep telling myself as I nurse my various aches and pains after a long day of playing.

Thanks for the kind words, reading the blog, and for commenting. I really appreciate it.

Great article about actual course management. Others have stated about the similarities to ball golf course management and I have to agree...positioning and shot planning is very important.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is as we get older course management becomes more important. I am at grandmaster status and often times play with folks much, much younger. I marvel at the distance these folks achieve sometimes. But sometimes that gift becomes a crutch. Distance does not last forever....no getting around it. Unless of course you work on course management and think each shot through. I have learned myself that much of the time I score right in there with the young ones....by planning shots maybe two or three ahead. Focus on accuracy and getting up and down from 250 on in; just as the article states. You wouls be surprised at what a change in thought process can do to your score.

Many thanks....very well written article. Keep them coming!

Thanks for reading and commenting Drew! I'm currently looking to add MVP and Axiom to the lines of discs that I review. They make some very cool plastic!
